पनागर जबलपुर-कटनी मार्ग पर स्थित एक पुराना शहर है, जो कभी एक समृद्ध शहर था। आज भी इस क्षेत्र में सुंदर जैन मंदिरों और कल्चुरी कला और मूर्तिकला की मूर्तियों के बहुत सारे टूटे हुए टुकड़े पाए जाते हैं।

पनागर भगवान शांतिनाथ की भव्य खड़ी मूर्ति के लिए भी प्रसिद्ध है जो 10-11वीं शताब्दी की है। मूर्ति का चिन्ह दिखाई नहीं देता क्योंकि मूर्ति का निचला भाग (पैरों के नीचे का भाग) धरती के अंदर धँसा हुआ है।

लगभग 500 वर्ष प्राचीन जती बाबा का 'सिंहासन (बैठने का स्थान)' भी यहीं मौजूद है। यह भी माना जाता है कि पनागर से सोनागिरि तक पहुंचने के लिए एक सुरंग थी। वह वर्तमान में अदृश्य है।

भगवान शांतिनाथ की यह मूर्ति यहां से 3 किमी दूर 'तालाब बलेहा' के पास जमीन खोदने पर मिली थी। पद्मासन मुद्रा में भगवान पार्श्वनाथ की एक चमत्कारी और आकर्षक 5 फीट ऊंची मूर्ति भी यहां मौजूद है।

Panagar is an old city lying on Jabalpur-Katni way, once it had been a prosperous city. Even today plenty of broken fragments of beautiful Jain temples & idols of Kalchuri Art & sculpture are found in this region.

Panagar is also famous for magnificent standing idol of Bhagwan Shantinath that belongs to 10-11 century. The sign of idol can not be seen because the lower part (portion below feet) of idol is embedded inside the earth.

The ‘Throne (sitting place) of Jati Baba’, which is around 500 years ancient, is also present here. It is also believed that a tunnel was there to reach Sonagiri from Panagar. That is invisible in present.

This idol of Bhagwan Shantinath was found 3 km away from here by digging the earth near ‘Pond Baleha’. A miraculous & attractive 5 feet high idol of Bhagwan Parshvanath in Padmasana posture is also present here.
